Principal's Message

Hello Whitmore Families!
I am excited to announce that our new website is now up and running!  Over the next few months, our staff will continue to add more content to the website, including communication tools, school board agendas and meeting minutes, spotlight news about events, and other relevant information for parents and families.  Please be sure to explore the website and give us as much feedback as possible so that we can continue to update, edit, and improve the overall functionality of the website.

In addition to the new website, there have been several new upgrades at our school over the last year or so.  During the spring and summer of 2023, our two main classrooms were remodeled and updated with new insulation, windows, cabinetry, sinks, and tack board/walls.  Wow!  The students and staff are making the best of these newly remodeled classrooms!  Other upgrades from the 2022-2023 school year includes new cafeteria tables and trash receptacles, which are in school colors.  This really helped to make the cafeteria feel more “school-like” compared to the original fold out tables and metal chairs.  Our students really enjoy sitting at these new tables!  For the 2023-2024 school year, Whitmore has been purchasing a newer set of curriculum for some of our main subject areas.  The school purchased a new 6th-8th grade science curriculum called StemScopes, which is a New Generation Science Standards curriculum that incorporates a lot of project based learning modules and kits to support the main text.  Likewise, we purchased a new K-8 set of English Language Arts curriculum, which is Wonders for K-5 and StudySync for grades 6-8.

As an ongoing program for our students, Whitmore continues to incorporate the “Farm to Fork” program by utilizing an extensive garden program that our students help with during the after school program.  Many staff members help maintain both the outside garden and the inside hydroponics, which produces a lot of lettuce year round!  The students grow squash, tomatoes, and peppers, just to name a few.  They also raise chickens!  Lastly, the school is in the process of getting a generator installed for the main school building.  The project is expected to be completed before Christmas Break.  The new generator will allow for the school to be open during occasional power outages and ensure that our food products never go to waste!

Whitmore is an excellent small school with an amazing adult to student ratio, close to 2:1.  This allows our staff the ability to work more closely with individual students and truly help support them with their educational needs.  Moreover, Whitmore Union Elementary School District offers a robust homeschool program for families throughout the Shasta County area.  As a matter of fact, the homeschool program currently has a waiting list and we are hoping to expand to 3 full-time teachers for that program in the near future.

If you are interested in enrolling your child, whether that be for on-site or in the homeschool program, please give us a call!  I am more than happy to answer any questions and give a tour of our school and programs.  As the superintendent/principal of Whitmore Union Elementary School District, I am excited for our students’ future and the opportunities to help them with their education and become productive members of society in the world ahead!

Sincerely,
Tony Moebes
